A Prayer of Election Day

forgive us, for we know not what we do.

Brother Jesus,

heal us, for we are wounded by our own words and deeds,

our very own arrogance and ignorance.

Sister Spirit,

lead us, for we long to walk the way of truth and life,

for we, the people long for a more perfect union.

Bring us forth from the tomb of our own making,

into the light of your beloved community.

Help us to see,

that by loving God and neighbor and self,

we can embrace truth is in order to goodness,

wholeness is in order to health,

freedom is in order to responsibility,

and that each of us is called, set apart, and elected,

not to hate, but to love,

not to divide, but to unite,

not to hoard, but to share,

not to lie, but tell the truth

in all that we say and do,

in this life and the life to come.

Hear our prayer, Pappa, Brother Jesus, Sister Spirit.
